Mozilla Thunderbird Update Released

Several potentially serious new exploits have been patched with Mozilla Thunderbird. Make sure that you update to version 2.0.0.17 as soon as possible. The new fixes cover both PC and Mac versions.

One of the major fixes blocks a UTF-8 hyperlink spoof that could allow a hacker to execute code in e-mails. Another has to do with Newsgroups. There are also several bug fixes included. Given all of the strange things that people are reporting with Thunderbird, an update might resolve some of the issues.

To check to see which version of Thunderbird you are using, click the Help menu, then About Mozilla Thunderbird.

If your copy of Thunderbird has not already been updated to the current version (2.0.0.17), click on the Help menu, then Check for Updates.

If you want to turn on the Automatic Updates feature for Thunderbird, click on Help, then Options, select the Advanced button and the then the Update tab. Make sure that Automatically Check for Updates to Thunderbird is checked. The Automatic Update feature works well and you can also choose to automatically check for updates for all of your Thunderbird Add-Ons, as well.

I am having a lot of problems with the message filters. I have them set properly but a lot of the emails don’t go to the proper folder that I have set

    Hi Rodney

Take a real close look at how your filters are set up. Make sure that there aren’t any conflicts, i.e., multiple filters snagging a message. If multiple filters can snag the same message, it is hard to predict where it will end up.

Pay particular attention to any e-mail messages that ended up in the wrong folder. There is always a reason as to why something like this happens. Sometimes something very subtle can snag a message and put it into a particular folder.

You will very likely find that Thunderbird is acting logically.
