Norton Internet Security May Be Disabling E-Mail

For months people have been reporting strange problems with Mozilla’s Thunderbird e-mail client. I have maintained that the problem is not likely to be Thunderbird, but is more likely to be related to a user’s ISP or a Windows issue or a firewall blocking access. I think I have found and verified at least one potential source for the ongoing issue with either inbound or outbound mail becoming disabled.

Best Add-ons for Mozilla Thunderbird

Mozilla’s Thunderbird allows independent developers to add functionality to this very popular e-mail client through extensions called add-ons. Some users never use add-ons, while others use dozens of them. I prefer to only install an add-on when it adds a particular feature that is really useful. There are hundreds of add-ons available that can be very useful enhancements.

Thunderbird Outgoing Email Problems – SMTP Configuration Scenarios

It is clear that several people are having problems with outgoing email with Mozilla’s Thunderbird. Most outgoing e-mail problems are related to improper SMTP (Simple Mail Transport Protocol) configurations. Sometimes an ISP’s server configuration changes. Sometimes the user may not select the proper SMTP server for an account. In this post I will attempt to cover some of the most common configurations that I find in the hope that one of them will work properly with your particular mail server or ISP (Internet Service Provider).

Creating an E-Mail Signature in Thunderbird

No one want to receive spam, but today it is almost inevitable that most e-mail addresses will eventually end up on spam lists. I have always protected my e-mail addresses, but recently ended up receiving more than 100 spam messages per day on my most important e-mail address used only by my business clients.
