Sales figures for high definition DVDs for the first quarter of 2007 are out and it looks like sales for the Blu-ray format are stomping HD DVD. Reuters reports that 70% of the the first quarter’s high definition DVD sales were for Blu-ray disks, while 30% were for the HD DVD format. This is not surprising given the fact that 8 out of the top 10 best selling high definition DVDs have been released on the Blu-ray format.

Cellulosic ethanol uses a process to turn plant waste into ethanol. Rather than using corn, sugar or soybeans to produce ethanol, the waste byproducts, such as stalks and trimmings, can be used. Cellulosic alcohol is chemically identical to ethanol produced by other processes, but contains a higher energy content. This may help resolve the current concerns about using ethanol in auto fuel production due to the fact that standard ethanol contains 30% less energy than gasoline, which reduces mileage. We all know that we need to find a way to decrease our dependency upon foreign energy sources. Oil is currently a very critical energy source given the volatility in the Middle East and the extreme anti-American posture taken by bafoons such as the current leader of Venezuela. There is also a very real concern that the continued burning of carbon-based fuels may be accelerating global warming by adding to greenhouse gasses. I found a really nice free FTP utility called FileZilla, which is available on SourceForge.net at http://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla.
