Prices are dropping for large screen HDTVs. Many people who purchase a new high definition television opt for buying the largest screen that they can afford. Frequently they are dissatisfied or unimpressed with the picture quality. That’s because you can buy a large screen television that is way too large for your viewing distance. Blu-ray Sales Beating HD DVD

Sales figures for high definition DVDs for the first quarter of 2007 are out and it looks like sales for the Blu-ray format are stomping HD DVD. Reuters reports that 70% of the the first quarter’s high definition DVD sales were for Blu-ray disks, while 30% were for the HD DVD format. This is not surprising given the fact that 8 out of the top 10 best selling high definition DVDs have been released on the Blu-ray format.

HDTV High Definition Television Terminology

Okay, I admit that I am addicted to my home theater. My wife and I both enjoy watching movies on Friday night and it has become a bit of a family tradition. I also think that exciting things are happening with the new high definition television (HDTV) products that are hitting the market. Prices have steadily dropped over the past few years and I think they will stabilize in 2007, so it is time to start to understand the new lingo that goes with new technology. (more…)

HD DVD vs Blu-ray Video Formats

Anyone who is interested in the newest high definition television technology is probably also looking at high definition DVDs. Two competing and incompatible technologies have once again emerged. It’s deja vu all over again as we are re-subjected to today’s equivalent of the Sony’s Betamax versus JVC’s VHS video format war of the early 1980s. You would think that Sony would have learned a lesson, but it looks like they are at it again. This time with rival Toshiba. (more…)
