Hi Pj

Waiting might be a good idea, because we do not know how well the new Blu-ray 3D movies will work or if it will be worth the expense. I suspect that most people will just look for 3D features the next time they upgrade their home theater gear. In two or three years, almost all new gear will have 3D capabilities.

It is theoretically possible to develop a 3D display that does not require glasses. There have been several attempts, but the demos that we've seen have been very poor quality and looked like you were looking through the bottom of a shot glass.

Nintendo will be introducing the Nintendo 3DS gaming console in 2011, which has 3D that does not use glasses, but requires that your eyes be pretty close to the screen. It won't work at a distance. The real issue is how to separate the left-eye and right-eye images so that you get a stereo effect.

With this 3D home theater technology being so young i am holding out on my next investment which i have been surprising very wise about, usually i just jump at the first opportunity. I want to all HD and 3D, taking my time researching for the best performing components for the best value and not have to pay full price if i have to. do you see there being any 3D technology that wont use glasses?

I have the 50 inch Samsung DLP with the shutter glasses, and its awesome. I have the TRI-DEF software and it makes Pc Games unbelievable, especially the newer ones with the 3d data built in.

Just like with the Bluray/HD-DVD war... you could already see who the superior format was from the begining, and luckily for consumers (smart consumers) it won...

Same here... RealD technology is at the moment the market leader for Digital 3D in cinemas and so it should be with that experience and backing by the major film corporations such as Disney, Sony, Fox and Paramount... It surprises me that the Technology Corporations or at least a couple arent working together on this one.

Hi Steve

We do not make specific recommendations for gear. The next wave of 3D technology has not yet arrived. We expect to see several new 3D technology announcements at the 2010 CES in January.

If you want to view 3D movies on your current plasma television, you do not need special equipment or components if you go with 3D anaglyph technology movies. Just read the posts in our Home Theater category.
